Passive harmonic filter for Altivar drives — obsolete, sourced to order
The VW3A4628 is a passive filter from the Altivar accessory range, designed to reduce current harmonics on the line side of a variable-speed drive. It is rated 101 A continuous at 400 V +/- 10 %, three-phase, 50 Hz +/- 5 %, and delivers a THDI of 10 % when paired with ATV61HD45N4, ATV61HD55N4, ATV71HD45N4, ATV71HD55N4, ATV71WD45N4, or ATV71WD55N4 drives; with ATV61W variants (ATV61WD45N4, ATV61WD45N4C, ATV61WD55N4, ATV61WD55N4C) the THDI drops to 5 %. Power factor correction is load-dependent: cos phi reaches 0.99 at 100 % of line current, 0.85 at 75 %, and 1.0 at 150 % — meaning the filter over-corrects at high overload, which is typical for passive stages sized to the drive's nominal current. Efficiency is rated at 98 %, so the thermal loss at full load is roughly 2 % of the 101 A pass-through — about 800 W at 400 V, which the IP20 enclosure must vent into the cabinet. Mounting clearance around the filter matters; the bare-wire connection accepts a 12.5 mm diameter cable.
Deployment context — panel integration for legacy drive cabinets
This filter is a line-reactor-sized passive block, IP20, intended for enclosure mounting inside a drive cabinet. It is not a standalone wall-mount device; plan for DIN-rail or baseplate fixing and ensure the ambient air inside the cabinet stays between 5 °C and 40 °C without derating, or up to 55 °C with a 3 % per °C derating on the 101 A rating. Operating altitude above 1000 m requires an additional 5 % current derating per 1000 m up to 4000 m. Relative humidity must stay within 5-85 % non-condensing. Insulation is Class F, so the winding can handle a 155 °C hot-spot temperature without accelerated aging.
