The VW3A5108 is a motor choke — a dv/dt output filter — for Schneider variable speed drives. It sits between the drive output and the motor cable, limiting the voltage rise rate (dv/dt) that the drive's PWM pulses impose on the motor insulation. Rated at 1188 A continuous, it handles drive ratings from 400 kW up to 800 kW depending on supply voltage. The dv/dt limit is voltage-dependent: 500 V/µs max at 400 V, 750 V/µs at 500 V, and 1000 V/µs at 690 V. Thermal losses run 682 W at full rated current. The choke is IP00 and reaches IP20 only with optional kits installed.
Cable length and frequency limits
Maximum motor cable length depends on voltage and whether the cable is shielded. At 380–480 V with shielded cable, the limit is 250 m for the 400–630 kW power range; unshielded stretches to 300 m. At 500–690 V for 630–800 kW motors, shielded cable maxes at 150 m, unshielded at 250 m. A second motor on the same drive drops the shielded limit to 250 m and the unshielded to 400 m at 500–690 V. Maximum drive output frequency is 100 Hz. That covers most standard induction motor applications (pumps, fans, conveyors) but not high-speed spindles or servo-type drives running above line frequency.
Mounting and connection
Operating ambient temperature range is -10 to 50 °C, storage -25 to 70 °C. The 682 W dissipation means forced ventilation or a larger enclosure than the drive alone would need — factor that into the panel thermal budget.
