What the 400 A Rating Means for Your Drive Line
The VW3A5209 is a sinus filter rated for 400 A continuous output current, designed for the output side of an Altivar variable speed drive. It cleans the PWM waveform from the drive into a near-sinusoidal voltage and current, which reduces motor heating, bearing currents, and reflected-wave spikes on long cable runs. The filter can handle 1.5 x nominal current for 60 seconds — useful for motor starting or short overload events.
Deployment Context — Panel and Environment
It connects via bare wires up to 11 mm diameter. Operating altitude up to 1000 m is full rating; above that, derate 1 % per 100 m up to 3000 m. Ambient temperature range is -10 to 40 °C without derating, and 40 to 50 °C with a 1.5 % per °C derating. Pollution degree 2 per EN 50178 covers normal industrial environments with only non-conductive contamination.
Vibration and Shock — What It Withstands
The filter is rated for vibration resistance of 1 gn (13–200 Hz) and 1.5 mm peak-to-peak (3–13 Hz) per IEC 60068-2. Shock resistance is 15 gn for 11 ms per IEC 60068-2-27. These ratings cover normal industrial panel vibration and occasional impact during transport or nearby equipment operation.
