What this filter does and why it matters
The Schneider VW3A68552 is a dv/dt output filter sized for Altivar 68 drives, rated 300 A continuous on 400-500 VAC lines. It limits the voltage rise rate (dv/dt) to 6000 V/µs max at that voltage range, which protects motor winding insulation from the reflected-wave spikes that long cable runs can produce on PWM drives. With a maximum motor cable length of 500 m unshielded or 300 m shielded at 2.5 kHz switching frequency, this filter lets you place the drive farther from the motor than you could without one — think conveyor lines, pump stations, or any layout where the drive cabinet sits remote from the motor.
Sizing and installation constraints
At 420 mm wide, 350 mm tall, and 270 mm deep, this is a panel-mount filter — no DIN rail, no snap-on. Electrical connection is via copper bar with M10 bolts, so plan for busbar work and torque wrench access. Operating temperature range is -10 to 50 °C without derating, and 50 to 60 °C with 1.5 % current derating per °C above 50 °C. If your installation is in a hot mezzanine or a high-altitude plant, factor those in at sizing time.
Lifecycle reality — obsolete, but still sourced
Schneider has marked the VW3A68552 as obsolete.
