The VW3AP0601 is a dv/dt filter choke from Schneider Electric's Altivar Process accessory range, designed for the ATV600 and ATV900 drive families. It sits between the drive output and the motor, protecting the motor windings from voltage spikes caused by fast-switching IGBTs — particularly important on long cable runs or when the motor is not inverter-rated. This filter is sized for drive systems rated 110 to 160 kW and supports cable lengths up to 150 meters between drive and motor. The dv/dt choke smooths the rise time of the output voltage, reducing peak voltage stress on the motor insulation and lowering high-frequency leakage currents that can trip upstream RCDs or damage bearing races.
There is one critical sourcing constraint: the unit cannot be ordered alone. It is only available in combination with a standard enclosure (Schneider's own packaged drive system). If you are retrofitting an existing ATV600 or ATV900 drive that was originally supplied without the enclosure bundle, you will need to order the complete assembly — not just the filter choke as a loose part.
The 150-meter cable-length rating is the key figure for the commissioning engineer. Without a dv/dt filter, a 110-160 kW drive on a 150-meter run will see reflected-wave voltage spikes at the motor terminals that can exceed twice the DC bus voltage — enough to punch through standard motor insulation. This filter keeps the voltage rise time above the critical threshold where reflection becomes damaging. The 110-160 kW power band covers motor sizes for pumps, fans, compressors, and conveyors. The filter is a protection accessory that integrates into the drive output circuit.
