The Schneider Electric VW3AP3203 is an additional I/O module for the Altivar drive series, adding 6 discrete inputs, 2 discrete outputs, and 2 analog inputs to the drive's control terminals. It mounts inside a standard Altivar enclosure — the module cannot be ordered alone, only in combination with a standard enclosure.
The two analog inputs (AI1, AI2) are configurable as current (0…20 mA / 4…20 mA), voltage (−10…10 V DC, 24 V max), or probe inputs (PTC, Pt 100, Pt 1000), all with 14-bit resolution and a 0…1 ms sampling time. This means the module can handle both standard 4-20 mA loop signals from pressure/flow transmitters and direct RTD temperature probes without an external signal conditioner — a single I/O slot covers both analog and temperature sensing. The six discrete inputs (DI11…DI16) are programmable for negative or positive logic, accepting 24 V DC (limits ≤ 30 V) with 2.5 mA draw per input. The 250 Ω input impedance and 1 ms sampling time suit it for standard 24 V DC proximity sensors and limit switches — no special sourcing needed. The two discrete outputs (DQ11, DQ12) are assignable logic outputs, 24 V DC (≤ 30 V), rated 100 mA each. That 100 mA per channel means they can drive small relays or indicator lamps directly, but not contactor coils or solenoid valves without an interposing relay.
Protection and connection
The module includes reverse polarity protection on the digital inputs and short-circuit protection on the outputs — so a miswired sensor supply or a shorted output channel won't take out the module or the drive's backplane. Connection is via a removable spring-cage terminal block accepting 1.5 mm² / AWG 16, which speeds panel wiring and allows pre-termination before installation.
