The VW3AP3422 is an analog encoder interface module for the Altivar drive family. It accepts SinCos Hiperface 1 Vpp signals from the encoder head, passing position and temperature data back to the drive over the Data+/Data- line. This is a field-fit option card, not a standalone device — the evidence states it cannot be ordered alone and requires a standard enclosure (the drive chassis) for mounting.
Signal path and key ratings
The module handles the full SinCos Hiperface signal set: Sin, RefSin, Cos, RefCos, plus the serial Data+/Data- lines and a temperature channel (Temp+/Temp-). It runs at up to 100 kHz operating frequency, which covers most servo and spindle encoder rates. Cable run can go 100 m between encoder and module — enough to keep the drive cabinet away from the motor. Supply voltage is selectable: 5 V DC (4.75...5.25 V), 12 V DC (11.4...12.6 V), or 24 V DC (22.8...25.2 V). Maximum supply current varies with voltage — 0.25 A at 5 V, 0.1 A at 12 V, 0.05 A at 24 V. The module includes short-circuit and overload protection on the encoder supply. Connection is via a single 9-pin female SUB-D connector. That's the standard Hiperface pinout — no special cable or breakout needed if your harness already uses a D-sub.
