The Schneider Electric VW3AP3607 is a Profibus DP V1 communication module for the Altivar drive family. It plugs into the drive's option slot and handles the fieldbus link between the drive and a Profibus master, supporting baud rates from 9.6 kbps up to 12 Mbps over a standard SUB-D 9 connector. The module implements the CiA 402 drive profile per IEC 61800-7-201, so motion-control commands (speed, torque, position) map directly through the bus without custom programming.
The 12 Mbps top baud rate matches the Profibus DP V1 specification and is sufficient for most drive networks; the auto-baud range down to 9.6 kbps lets it coexist on a legacy line with older DP slaves. Node addressing is configurable from 1 to 126 via the drive's graphic terminal or SoMove software — no DIP switches on the module itself, so the address is stored in the drive's non-volatile memory and travels with the drive, not the card. Two LEDs on the faceplate give a quick read: RUN indicates bus communication established, BF (bus fault) lights when the module detects a network error.
Integration constraints
One hard constraint: this module cannot be ordered alone. It ships only as part of a standard enclosure combination with the drive (per the manufacturer's condition of use). For a panel builder or integrator, that means the VW3AP3607 arrives pre-mounted and pre-wired inside the drive's enclosure — you don't get a loose card to retrofit into an existing drive in the field. If you need a field-installable Profibus option for an Altivar drive already in service, this is not the right order code; you would look for the equivalent field-kit variant.
