Enclosure and environmental sealing
The XCMD2102L3 carries a NEMA 1/2/4/4X/6/12/13 rating alongside IP66, IP67, and IP68 — meaning the switch body and the 3 m pre-wired cable entry are sealed against hose-directed water, temporary submersion, and continuous immersion. This is the enclosure spec that decides whether the switch survives on a washdown line or in a pit where standing water is routine. The Zamak zinc alloy body handles the mechanical abuse of a heavy-duty limit switch application — it resists corrosion better than painted steel in wet environments and holds the conduit/cable entry threads without galling.
Contact ratings and switching duty
The DC rating is the limiting factor in most control circuits — at 24 VDC the switch handles the same 0.1 A resistive, so if you are switching a DC solenoid or a PLC input with a 0.5 A inrush, the contacts will weld. The AC rating at 240 V is adequate for pilot-duty control of a contactor or relay coil within its thermal budget. Snap-action operation means the contacts change state at a fixed pretravel of 3.1 mm and a differential travel of 1.4 mm, giving a crisp make/break that avoids the arcing and contact bounce of a slow-action mechanism.
Actuator and mechanical interface
Steel roller plunger actuator — the roller reduces cam or slide wear compared to a plain plunger, and the steel stem handles side loads from the cam track. The 35 oz-in operating force is moderate; it will not trip on vibration but will actuate reliably with a positive cam or dog. The 1NO-1NC contact configuration (one form C set) covers the majority of interlock and position-sensing circuits: the NC channel wired into the safety chain, the NO channel into the PLC input.
Standards and approvals
UL and CSA listed — accepted in North American panels without additional agency review. Designed to EN/IEC 60204-1 (machine safety) and EN/IEC 60947-5-1 (control circuit devices), so it fits European machinery directives as well.
