The Square D XCMD2117L1 is a miniature metal-body limit switch rated 240 VAC at 1.5 A and 250 VDC at 0.1 A. That 0.1 A DC rating is the real constraint — most general-purpose limit switches carry 2–3 A on DC, so if you're switching a 24 VDC solenoid or relay coil, verify the inrush doesn't exceed 0.1 A. The 1NO-1NC contact configuration gives you one normally-open and one normally-closed set, enough for a basic interlock or position feedback circuit. The 0.5 N positive-opening force and 0.1 N tripping force mean the actuator trips with very light contact — suitable for sensing a passing part on a conveyor or a cam lobe, but not for a heavy guard door that needs a firm positive-break. The ball bearing mounted roller lever tracks the cam smoothly without binding.
Where it lives — enclosure and environment
Rated NEMA 4X/6P/12/13 and IP66/IP67, the metal body handles washdown, hose-down, and temporary submersion. That makes it a candidate for food-and-beverage washdown zones, outdoor conveyor lines, or wet machining areas — as long as the 1-meter pre-wired cable reaches the junction box without a splice. If you need a longer cable run, plan a sealed junction box at the cable end. Operating temperature range -13 to 158 °F (-25 to 70 °C) covers most indoor plant environments but check if your application sees sustained heat near a furnace or kiln. The 1.5 m/s actuation speed is fast enough for most linear and rotary cam applications.
Listed as current production. The XCMD2117L1 is still an active Square D / Telemecanique catalog item, so it's not a scavenger-hunt part. Approvals include UL 508, CSA C22.2, CE, and CCC, plus RoHS compliance. The applicable standards EN/IEC 60947-5-1 (control circuit devices) and EN/IEC 60204-1 (safety of machinery) are the ones your panel inspector will check.
