What this switch is and where it lives
The Square D Osiswitch XCMD291AL1 is a heavy-duty, miniature, modular limit switch with a ZAMAK zinc alloy body and a snap-action mechanism. It's built for environments where water, dust, and occasional submersion are the norm — the enclosure carries NEMA 1/2/4/4X/6/12/13 and IP66, IP67, and IP68 ratings, so it handles washdown, outdoor exposure, and even temporary flooding on a conveyor line or pump skid. Rated 240 VAC at 1.5 A and 250 VDC at 0.1 A, with a 2NC contact configuration. The 1-meter pre-wired removable cable connector simplifies replacement — no need to re-pull the full cable run when the switch body comes off. Operating temperature spans -13 to 158 °F. Approvals include UL and CSA.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 1.5 A at 240 VAC contact rating is a signal-level load, not a motor-switching rating — this switch is meant for control circuits (PLC inputs, relay coils, contactor auxiliaries), not direct power switching. The 0.1 A at 250 VDC rating is typical for DC control loops; if you're switching a DC solenoid or indicator lamp, confirm the inrush doesn't exceed the DC rating. IP67 and IP68 seal against dust ingress and water immersion. The NEMA 4X rating adds corrosion resistance. The 2NC (normally-closed) configuration is typical for safety circuits — two NC contacts in series provide redundancy and a fail-safe open on actuator release. If your application requires a normally-open signal, this isn't the variant.
Integration notes
The 1-meter pre-wired cable with a removable connector means you can mount the switch, route the cable through the conduit or gland, and then plug the connector into the switch body. This saves time during panel build-out or field replacement.
