The Telemecanique XS108BLPAM12 is a shielded M8 threaded inductive proximity sensor from the XS1 series. It senses ferrous targets at 2 mm maximum distance and switches a PNP normally-open output at 12-24 VDC, up to 200 mA. The brass body is nickel-plated and sealed to IP67 and NEMA 4X, so it handles washdown and coolant splash in machining centers or packaging lines.
The 2 mm shielded sensing distance means the sensor must be flush-mounted in a metal bracket or block — no dead zone around the face, but the target must pass within 2 mm. That is short-range detection, sized for small cylinder positions, valve spool end stops, or clamp confirmation on a fixture. The M8 thread is the standard 8 mm barrel; the 62 mm overall length leaves room for a locknut and bracket without protruding into the work envelope. The PNP normally-open output pulls high when a target is present, which is the common sink for PLC digital inputs (sourcing configuration). At 200 mA maximum load current it can drive a small relay or indicator directly, but not a contactor coil without an interposing relay. The 4-pin M12 connector mates with standard M12 cordsets; pin 1 is brown (+), pin 4 is black (output), pin 3 is blue (-), and pin 2 is unused on a 3-wire NO sensor. Built-in overload, reverse polarity, and short-circuit protection mean the sensor survives a miswire or a brief output short without blowing its internal driver. That saves a trip to the panel when a chip gets into the connector.
Inductive proximity sensors of this class detect the presence of metal objects without contact — common on automated assembly stations, conveyor diverters, pneumatic actuator position feedback, and tool-change confirmation on CNC turrets. The shielded flush-mount design suits it for tight spaces where the sensor must be recessed into a metal mounting block.
