The Telemecanique XS118BLPAL5 is a tubular inductive proximity sensor from the OsiSense XS family, built for detecting ferrous metal targets without contact. The 5 mm sensing distance is the rated range for a flush (shielded) mount — meaning the sensor face can be level with the mounting surface and still detect a standard steel target at that gap. That flush-mount capability is the key fit constraint: if your application requires a non-flush (unshielded) install, this part won't trigger at the same distance. Output is PNP normally open, switching at up to 2000 Hz, so it's suited for high-speed counting or position verification into a PLC sinking input. The 100 mA load current covers direct drive of small relays or indicator lamps, but not contactor coils or solenoids without an interposing relay. Operating voltage is 12 to 24 VDC — standard for most 24 VDC control systems, but verify your supply doesn't drift below 12 V under load, as the sensor won't switch reliably below that floor.
The 18 mm nickel-plated brass barrel threads into a standard 18 mm mounting hole or bracket. The 5 m PVC cable exits the rear, so plan for cable routing and strain relief at the sensor end. IP67 means the housing and cable entry withstand washdown and temporary immersion — suitable for wet or dusty environments on conveyors, packaging lines, or machine tools. Sensing face is PPS. Operating range is -13 to 158 °F.
