What it is and what it's for
The Telemecanique XS1N05PA311 is an OsiSense XS tubular inductive proximity sensor in a 5 mm threaded short barrel with a nickel-plated brass body and a PPS sensing face. It is shielded, three-wire, PNP normally-open, and terminates in a 2 m PVC pigtail. The OsiSense XS line is the standard Schneider / Telemecanique family for non-contact metal detection in panel and machine-builder applications — small targets, end-of-stroke confirmation, part-present checks on small fixtures (K1).
Ratings that drive the fit
The 0.8 mm nominal sensing distance and 5000 Hz switching frequency are tight specifications because the M5 barrel is the small end of the XS range — the sensor only sees targets at very short range, but it does so fast enough for high-cycle machine builders. At 5–24 VDC with a 100 mA load, the device pulls from a standard low-voltage DC rail and can switch a PLC fast-input or a small relay coil without staging. Sealed to IP67 and NEMA 3/4X/6P/12/13 with a -13 to 158 °F operating window, it lives in washdown cabinets and on outdoor skids, and carries UL, CSA and CE on the nameplate — so it travels through U.S. and European build inspections without supplemental approvals work.
