The XS208BLPAL2 is a current-production inductive proximity sensor from the Telemecanique XS2 series — an M8 threaded cylindrical body in nickel-plated brass, unshielded, with a 3 mm sensing distance and PNP normally-open output. The 3 mm sensing distance is the maximum rated range for an unshielded M8 — expect reliable detection of ferrous targets at about 2.1 mm with standard derating for non-ferrous metals.
