The Telemecanique XS212BLNBL2 is a 12 mm threaded-barrel inductive proximity sensor from the OsiSense XS family, delivering a 4 mm flush-mount sensing range with a normally-closed NPN output. It operates on 12 to 24 VDC and switches at up to 1000 Hz, making it a fit for high-speed part-present detection on a conveyor or pick-and-place station where the NC logic provides fail-safe behavior on wire break.
The 4 mm sensing distance is the rated operating range for a mild steel target; derate for aluminum or stainless. The NC (normally-closed) output configuration means the sensor's internal transistor is ON when no target is present — a wire break or power loss opens the output, which is the preferred fail-safe state for safety-related interlocks or anti-collision zones. IP67 enclosure means the sensor body and cable entry are sealed against dust ingress and temporary immersion to 1 m for 30 minutes — suitable for washdown zones on packaging lines or coolant splash in machining centers. The nickel-plated brass barrel resists corrosion in these environments. The 2 m PVC pre-wired cable with three conductors (brown, blue, black) connects directly to a DC input card or relay; no connector to source or seal. The 100 mA maximum load current is the switching capacity — enough for a PLC input or a small relay coil, not for a contactor or solenoid directly.
