M18 inductive with washdown sealing
The XS218AAPAL10: This is an M18 threaded cylindrical inductive proximity sensor from the XS2 series, unshielded, with a 15 mm maximum sensing distance on mild steel. The PNP normally-open output pulls high when a target enters the detection zone — the standard wiring for a sourcing PLC input. The IP68/IP69K rating means the sensor body and cable entry withstand both continuous submersion (IP68) and high-pressure, high-temperature washdown (IP69K). In a food or beverage line where the sensor sees a 140 °F caustic spray cycle, this holds up where an IP67 sensor would wick moisture through the cable gland after a few months. The 10 m prewired cable with bare wire ends eliminates the connector as a failure point — no O-ring to dry out, no pin corrosion. But the installer needs to plan for the cable routing and a proper liquid-tight gland at the enclosure entry; the cable jacket is the only moisture barrier between the sensor and the panel.
Supply voltage and output drive
Supply range is 12-48 VDC — the sensor runs on standard 24 VDC control power without a separate regulator, and also works on legacy 48 VDC systems still found in some plants. The 200 mA maximum load current is enough to drive a PLC input or a small 24 VDC relay coil directly; for a contactor or solenoid, add an interposing relay. The unshielded sensing face means this sensor can be flush-mounted in a metal bracket without the range derating that a shielded face would require. The 15 mm range on mild steel drops to about 10-11 mm on stainless (correction factor ~0.7) — budget that if the target is a stainless actuator rod. The PPS body with nickel plating resists chemical attack and corrosion in washdown environments — PPS handles the thermal cycling of CIP (clean-in-place) cycles better than ABS or PBT housings.
