XS218BLPBL2 is a current-production inductive proximity sensor from the Telemecanique XS2 series. Sensing method is inductive, unshielded, with a maximum 8 mm detection range on ferrous metals. Output circuit is PNP with normally closed contact form, rated for 200 mA maximum load on 12-24 V DC supply. Body is brass with nickel plating, M18 threaded barrel, 2 m prewired cable. IP67 and NEMA 4X rated for washdown and outdoor use. Operating temperature span from -13 °F to 158 °F. The 8 mm unshielded sensing distance means no derating for side-by-side mounting, but target material (steel vs aluminum vs stainless) will reduce range. Brass barrel, nickel-plated, resists mild corrosive atmospheres. PNP sourcing output requires a DC supply and 3-wire connection.
XS218BLPBL2 is frequently compared against the XS218SAMAL10, a 2-wire AC/DC sibling in the same M18 form factor. The differences that prevent a drop-in: XS218BLPBL2 uses 3-wire PNP DC (12-24 V) with NC contact, 8 mm sensing; XS218SAMAL10 is 2-wire AC/DC (24-240 V) with NO contact, 15 mm sensing. Wiring must change — three conductors vs two, and the load circuit must match the output type. Body material also differs: brass vs 316L stainless steel. The stainless version carries IP68/IP69K, better for high-pressure washdown, but the brass body on this unit is sufficient for IP67-class environments.
Mount via an 18 mm hole with M18 thread; unshielded face allows flush mounting. Route the 2 m axial cable and terminate the 3 wires for PNP NC at 200 mA.
