What it is
The XS230SAMAL5 is a Telemecanique Sensors XS2-series M30 threaded cylindrical inductive proximity sensor in a 316L stainless steel body with a nickel-plated finish, switched through a 2-wire AC/DC output in the NO (normally open) configuration and terminated on a 5 m prewired bare-wire cable. The sensing face is unshielded on an M30 thread, with the nominal sensing distance running from 15 mm at the minimum to 40 mm at the maximum — wide enough that a single SKU covers most tank-level and conveyor-presence layouts a panel builder hits on a hygienic line.
Supply, load and what the 2-wire loop actually means
The supply envelope is 24-240V AC and 24-240V DC on the same two conductors, so the same part drops onto an AC control transformer tap or a DC logic supply without rewiring — useful when a retrofit inherits mixed rails. Load current is rated to 300 mA maximum, which is the ceiling a sourcing buyer has to plan the input card or contactor coil against, not the typical draw — verify the downstream device's inrush against that figure before specifying.
Washdown envelope
Sealing is IP68 and IP69K with a NEMA 4X enclosure rating, and the 316L stainless body is rated for an operating span of -13 °F to 185 °F — comfortable headroom for daily hot-caustic washdown at elevated temperatures and outdoor unheated cabinets down to a Midwest winter floor. Approvals on the nameplate are CCC, CE, CSA, RoHS and UL Listed, so the part carries the compliance paper trail a food-and-bev skid or export-bound machine build typically asks for at goods-in.
On the panel — cable, indicator and mounting
The 5 m prewired bare-wire pigtail is the practical difference from the shorter cable variant — route through the gland plate to the terminal block without intermediate connectors in the splash zone, and budget the slack for a service loop at the sensor mount. An integrated indicator light is included on the body, so commissioning and fault isolation on the line read the status without a meter on the loop. Overall height is 63 mm on the M30 thread — standard for this frame, and matching the same XS2-series mounting footprint so existing brackets and clamp hardware stay common across the line.
Where the class is used
Cylindrical inductive proximity sensors in this class are the workhorse presence detectors on conveyors, fillers and capping stations — non-contact detection of metal targets through a stainless housing that survives the washdown regime, with a 2-wire AC/DC output that lands directly on a PLC input or contactor coil without an intermediate relay.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Lifecycle stage is current production, so the BOM line stays specified-into-active and orders move against an RFQ rather than a last-time-buy or broker channel.
