What the 40 mm sensing distance means for your line
The XS230SAPAM12 detects ferrous targets at up to 40 mm with the unshielded sensing face — that is the full rated range on mild steel. On stainless steel targets, apply the standard 0.7× correction factor, so budget about 28 mm reliable detection. The 15 mm minimum sensing distance sets the closest a target can approach without causing false triggers; keep the target at least that far when the sensor is flush-mounted in a bracket.
Washdown and material — IP69K and 316L stainless
Rated IP67 and IP69K, this sensor withstands high-pressure, high-temperature washdown cycles common in food-and-beverage and pharmaceutical lines. The 316L stainless steel body resists corrosion from caustic cleaning agents and acidic wash solutions — the nickel-plated finish adds an extra layer of surface protection. NEMA 4X enclosure rating confirms suitability for wet, corrosive indoor and outdoor locations.
Electrical fit — 12-24V DC, PNP NO, M12 connector
Operates on 12-24V DC with a PNP normally-open output that switches up to 200 mA load current. The 4-pin M12 male connector mates directly with standard M12 cordsets — no pigtail or terminal block needed. Three-wire configuration: brown (V+), blue (V-), black (output). The built-in LED indicator gives a local visual on output state, useful during commissioning without a handheld tool.
