What the ratings mean for fit
This Telemecanique XS4P12MA230K is a 12mm unshielded inductive proximity sensor that runs on either 24-240 VAC or 24-210 VDC, making it a universal drop-in for control panels mixing AC and DC supplies. Sensing distance is 4 mm at the front face — unshielded construction means it needs free space around the barrel to avoid false triggering, unlike shielded versions that can be flush-mounted. Switching frequency reaches 25 Hz on AC supply and 3000 Hz on DC. For high-speed part counting or fast cycling, stick with DC; the AC rate is fine for basic presence detection on conveyor or packaging lines. Enclosure rating IP68 and NEMA 6P — the sensor is fully submersible and rated for washdown environments. Body is PPS, sensing face is PPS as well, holding up to many industrial chemicals. Connector is a 3-pin 1/2-20 UNF male micro — a common North American standard but not the same as M12. Verify your mating cable assembly before committing the BOM line. Output is normally open, 2-wire, rated 5–200 mA AC/DC. The NO configuration means the load is switched on when the target is present; plan your logic accordingly.
Sourcing and lifecycle
Approvals include UL, CSA, and CE — no additional documentation beyond standard technical datasheet is required for most North American and European installations.
