The Telemecanique XS4P12NA340 is a 12mm-diameter unshielded inductive proximity sensor with a 4mm sensing range, switching at 5000 Hz. Rated 12 to 24 VDC and outputs NPN normally open at 200 mA. The PPS body and sensing face, combined with a NEMA 3/4X/6P/12/13 and IP68 enclosure, make it suitable for wet or dusty locations—washdown zones, outdoor panels, or anywhere coolant mist is a problem. A 2-meter PVR cable is attached; no connector to lose in the panel.
Commissioning notes
Unshielded construction means a larger sensing field than a shielded barrel of the same diameter—plan for the field to extend beyond the sensor's metal body, so keep it clear of adjacent steel. The 5000 Hz switching frequency keeps up with fast-moving targets on a conveyor or spindle. NPN NO pulls the output low when metal is present; make sure your PLC input is configured for sinking (NPN) logic. The 2m cable is PVR, which holds up to oil and flexing better than PVC in cable tray runs. Apply the usual EMC practice: route the 3-wire cable away from power conductors.
