8 mm unshielded sensing in an 18 mm barrel
The XS4P18MA230K is a Telemecanique OsiSense inductive proximity sensor — 18mm threaded barrel, unshielded, with a front sensing distance of 8 mm. It is a 2-wire normally open output rated for 24 to 240 VAC and 24 to 210 VDC, handling up to 300 mA AC or 200 mA DC. Switching frequency reaches 25 Hz on AC and 2000 Hz on DC, so the part works equally well on slower AC proximity applications and faster DC lines. The PPS body and sensing face, combined with IP68 / NEMA 3/4X/6P/12/13 enclosure, give it washdown and outdoor capability. Connection is through a 3-pin 1/2-20 UNF male micro connector.
Sourcing gate: connector vs cable, NO vs NC
Closest functional sibling is XS4P18MB230L1, which shares the same 8 mm sensing distance, voltage range, and current ratings — but differs in two procurement-relevant ways. The MB230L1 terminates in a 5 m PVR cable; the MA230K uses a micro connector. If your panel schema was built for a cabled sensor, the MA230K requires either a mating connector or a pigtail adapter. The second difference is output logic: MA230K is normally open, MB230L1 is normally closed. Verify your PLC input mapping before committing the line to either variant.
Mounting and wiring notes
The 18 mm threaded barrel fits a standard 18 mm clearance hole; tighten with a 24 mm hex nut. Because the sensor is unshielded, leave an 8 mm air gap around the sensing face when mounting through ferrous metal or the sensor may false-trigger on the surrounding material. The 1/2-20 UNF thread on the micro connector is not the same as an M12×1.0 — double-check your cordsets or order a field-attachable micro-connector with the correct thread. The two wires carry line and load; the third pin is unused in this 2-wire configuration, but the connector shell provides continuity to ground if the panel wiring requires it.
