15 mm unshielded detection on a 30 mm barrel
The XS4P30PA340D is a 30 mm diameter unshielded inductive proximity sensor with a 15 mm sensing distance on mild steel. That 15 mm is the rated range for a standard steel target — correction factors apply for other metals (stainless ~0.7×, aluminum ~0.4×). Unshielded means the sensor can be flush-mounted in metal without derating the sensing range, which is the usual case for a 30 mm barrel in machine guarding or part-present detection. Output is PNP normally-open, 3-wire DC, rated 200 mA load current at 12–24 VDC. The 1000 Hz switching frequency handles fast-moving targets on a conveyor or rotary indexer — the PLC input filter must be set fast enough to catch the pulse.
IP68 enclosure and PPS body for wet environments
Rated IP68 and NEMA 3/4X/6P/12/13, the sensor is submersible and washdown-rated. The PPS (polyphenylene sulfide) body and sensing face resist machining coolants, mild acids, and alkaline wash solutions — common in food-and-bev or metalworking lines where a standard brass-barrel sensor would corrode. Connection is via a 4-pin M12 male micro connector (the fourth pin is unused on a 3-wire sensor). This means field replacement is a plug-and-swap — no rewiring a pigtail, no junction box. The M12 coupling nut must be torqued to spec (typically 0.4 N·m) to maintain the IP68 seal at the connector face.
