What this sensor is and why it matters to your BOM
The Telemecanique XS530B1MAL2 is an M30 threaded inductive proximity sensor from the XS5 series that operates on 24–240 V AC or DC. Rated IP68 and IP69K, it takes washdown and submersion without a secondary enclosure. The nickel-plated brass body holds up in wet, oily environments where plastic sensors crack. If the line has a washdown zone or a coolant spray, this sensor survives the cycle. It's a shielded (flush-mountable) design with a 10 mm sensing distance — the standard range for a shielded M30 prox. The NO output on a 2-wire AC/DC circuit simplifies wiring for normally-open presence detection. Current capacity is 300 mA, enough for direct PLC inputs or small relay coils.

Built-in overload, reverse polarity, and short circuit protection make it more robust than a bare switch. If a panel jockey wires it backwards or a solenoid shorts, the sensor shuts down instead of letting smoke out. That alone saves a call-out.
The sensor carries CE, CSA, RoHS, and UL Listing. For a GMP validation engineer, the UL mark matters for panel acceptance; RoHS compliance covers the material declaration. We can provide the EC declaration of conformity and UL file number with the shipment.
