Sensor fit and deployment context
The Telemecanique XS612B1MAL2 is a general-purpose inductive proximity sensor in a cylindrical M12 metal housing, with a 4 mm nominal sensing distance that is flush-mountable — meaning it can be embedded into a metal bracket without needing a non-ferrous standoff, which simplifies mounting on machine frames or conveyor rails. The 2-wire AC/DC output circuit (NO contact) switches 5 to 200 mA across a universal supply of 24 to 240 V AC/DC at 50/60 Hz, so it directly replaces older 2-wire sensors in existing control circuits without adding a separate DC supply. The IP68 and IP69K ratings mean the sensor body and cable entry withstand continuous immersion and high-pressure, high-temperature washdown — suitable for food-and-beverage lines, dairies, or outdoor equipment where hose-down sanitation is routine.
The 4 mm sensing distance is the maximum rated detection range for a flush-mounted M12 inductive sensor — it catches ferrous targets up to that gap, so for a 4 mm target-to-sensor standoff the sensor will reliably trigger. The 2-wire AC/DC design simplifies wiring: two conductors carry both power and the switching signal, and the 5 to 200 mA load range covers most PLC digital inputs and relay coils. The metal housing (54 mm body length) provides mechanical robustness in high-vibration environments compared to plastic-barrel sensors, and the 2 m cable (6.56 ft) gives enough reach to a junction box or terminal strip without a separate connector.
