Integrator note: what this sensor delivers
The Telemecanique XS612B1NAM12 is an M12 shielded cylindrical inductive proximity sensor with a 4 mm sensing range and NPN normally-open output, rated for 12-48 VDC supply. The shielded face allows flush mounting in metal without derating the sensing distance — the 4 mm is consistent whether surrounded by steel or air. Switched load current is rated 200 mA maximum, suitable for direct input to most PLC digital I/O modules without an interposing relay. IP67 and IP69K ratings cover hose-down and high-pressure washdown environments; the nickel-plated brass body resists corrosion common in food or chemical zones.
Fit check vs the rectangular plastic peer
The XS9E11RPBL01M12 is also an inductive proximity sensor but comes in a rectangular plastic housing, unshielded, with PNP NC output and a 10 mm sensing distance. Its M12 connector is mechanically similar, but the NPN-vs-PNP output and normally-open vs normally-closed contact form mean the wiring and PLC configuration must change. The 4 mm shielded range of the XS612B1NAM12 cannot be directly replaced by the unshielded 10 mm sensor without accounting for flush mounting limits and target material.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
Supplied with the M12 connector; no separate cable or mounting bracket ships, so confirm the mating connector and bracket are in the kitting order.
Mounting and wiring checklist
Body diameter is M12 threaded, 62 mm overall height; torque to manufacturer spec when mounting flush in metal. Three-wire NPN output: brown (24V), blue (0V), black (NPN NO switch to 0V). Verify PLC input card is sourcing (PNP input) or use a pull-up resistor. Operating temperature range -13°F to 158°F. LED indicator built into the body shows output state for commissioning and troubleshooting.
