7 mm sensing range — what it means on the line
The XS612B4PAL5: The 7 mm sensing distance is specified on mild steel. For stainless steel targets, the correction factor drops the usable range to about 5 mm — budget that margin if the line runs stainless grippers or tooling. The M12 nickel-plated brass barrel and PPS sensing face handle the mechanical abuse of a conveyor or pick-and-place station. IP65/IP68 means the sensor body and face survive washdown cycles and occasional immersion, though the 5 m PVC cable entry is the wet-end limit — the gland seal must be seated properly.
Switching speed and output logic
2500 Hz switching frequency is fast enough for part-counting on a conveyor or detecting passing pallets, but it will miss edges on a high-speed cam or a fast-pick robot. The PNP normally-open output sinks 200 mA — enough to drive a PLC input directly or a small relay coil without an interposer. Operating voltage spans 12 to 48 VDC, so it runs on a standard 24 VDC panel rail without a separate converter. The 3-wire configuration is the common PNP three-wire DC — check that the PLC input module is configured for sourcing (PNP) inputs.
