What this sensor is — and what the ratings mean for your panel
The XS618B1MBL2 is a cylindrical M18 shielded inductive proximity sensor from the Telemecanique XS6 series. It's a 2-wire AC/DC normally-closed device that operates on any supply from 24 to 240 V — AC or DC — which is handy when you're mixing control power in a panel and don't want to dedicate a separate DC supply for one sensor. The shielded face lets you flush-mount it in metal without worrying about sensing interference from the surrounding material; the maximum sensing distance is 8 mm. That's a typical range for an M18 shielded inductive, good for detecting most metal targets at a consistent distance. The IP68 and IP69K ratings mean it can handle immersion and high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns — common in food, beverage, and automotive plants where cleaning cycles are aggressive. The nickel-plated brass body resists corrosion and mechanical wear. With a maximum load current of 300 mA, it can drive a PLC input directly or switch a small relay without an interposing circuit. Indicator lights are built in, so you can see state without a multimeter.
Mounting and wiring — what to watch for
Two-wire AC/DC NC: connect in series with load. Prewired 2 m bare cable; M18 threaded shielded barrel, nickel-plated brass, 62 mm height. Operating temperature: -13 °F to 158 °F.
