20 mm shielded inductive — universal supply, triple IP seal
The XS8C4A1MPG13 is a rectangular-body inductive proximity sensor from Schneider Electric's XS8 series, delivering a 20 mm shielded sensing distance on mild steel. That shielding means it can be flush-mounted into a metal bracket without the target metal behind the face causing false triggers — a common headache in tight machine frames where the sensor pocket is cut into the guard rail. What sets this sensor apart for washdown environments is the IP65/IP67/IP69K triple rating. IP69K means it withstands 80°C water at 100 bar from a spray nozzle held 100 mm away — the standard for food-and-beverage lines, dairy CIP stations, and off-road vehicle underbody wash. The PBT housing resists the caustic detergents that degrade nylon over repeated cycles. Supply voltage spans 24-240V AC and 24-240V DC, so it drops into existing control circuits without a separate power supply module. The 2-wire programmable output (NO or NC) is set via the teach-in button, letting one SKU cover both fail-safe and standard interlock logic.
Load current, wiring, and temperature envelope
Switching capacity is 300 mA maximum load current — enough to drive a small relay coil or PLC input directly, but not a contactor solenoid. For higher loads, interpose a relay. Operating range is -13°F to 158°F (-25°C to 70°C), covering freezer-zone to hot washdown. The integrated indicator light (yellow LED) gives a quick visual on target presence without a handheld tool — useful when the sensor is mounted in a hard-to-reach corner of a packaging machine.
Approvals and compliance documentation
Carries UL Listed, CSA, CE, CCC, and RoHS marks — the UL and CSA listings mean it passes North American panel inspection without a substitution request. Schneider provides the EU Declaration of Conformity and the UL file number on request; the RoHS compliance statement covers the current substance restrictions.
