The XS8D1A1MAL2 is an inductive rectangular proximity sensor from Telemecanique's XS8 series. Shielded sensing face, normally open output. Supply voltage spans 24-240V AC or DC — works on both line and control voltages without a separate supply. Rated for a 60 mm sensing distance under the shielded configuration, with a max load current of 300 mA. That's a solid gap for detecting ferrous targets through non-metallic barriers.
How it sits against the XS8C1A1MAL2
Compared to the smaller XS8C1A1MAL2 (40 mm cube, 25 mm range), the XS8D1A1MAL2 steps up to an 80 mm wide body and 60 mm sensing distance. If your machine was drilled for the C-series footprint, the D-series won't bolt in without reworking the bracket or mounting plate. The electrical hookup is the same — 2-wire AC/DC, NO, 300 mA — but the mechanical swap isn't a five-minute job.
Mounting and installation
IP68 and NEMA 4X rating means it'll stand up to hose-down and temporary submersion — good for washdown zones or outdoor enclosures. The 2 m prewired cable with bare ends gives a clean run to a terminal block. Auto Adaptable feature on the 24-240V AC/DC supply means you don't need to set a voltage selector; just power it up and it works. Out here in the grease, you don't want a sensor that gives up when the hose-down hits — this one handles it.
