What it is
The XSAV12373 is a Telemecanique Sensors XSA-series inductive proximity sensor in an M30 threaded cylindrical brass body with a nickel-plated finish, supplied with a 2 m prewired cable that terminates to bare leads at the panel end. It senses metal targets by the inductive method in a shielded face configuration, with an overall height of 81 mm and a sensor diameter of 36 mm so it drops into a standard M30 mounting hole and locks down with the usual pair of jam nuts. The output is a three-wire PNP normally-closed circuit, which means the switched leg pulls up to the positive rail when no target is in range and drops open when a target enters the sensing field — wire it to a sinking PLC input or a relay coil rated for the panel's positive logic. Sensing distance is given as an 8 mm minimum to 15 mm maximum adjustable window rather than a single nominal, which gives the installer room to set the trip point on a target that does not sit at a fixed stand-off.
What the ratings decide for the BOM line
Built-in overload, reverse-polarity, and short-circuit protection on the output stage means the sensor can absorb the usual wiring mistakes — a swapped brown/blue on commissioning, an inductive kick from a long cable run, a downstream short — without needing an external fuse or suppressor on every drop. IP67 sealing at the body and a -13 °F to 158 °F operating temperature range covers washdown cells, outdoor cabinets, and most process-area enclosures without a separate shroud, though the bare-wire gland end is where any water path into the panel will originate, so the cable entry deserves the usual attention. Approvals on the part are CCC, CE, CSA, and UL Listed, which clears the documentation box for North American machinery and most EU-panel builds without a separate engineering review. The shielded face geometry directs the field straight out the end of the barrel, so adjacent sensors can be mounted closer than an unshielded equivalent without cross-talk — a useful point on dense tooling plates.
Sourcing and lifecycle
Because the device ships with a 2 m pigtail and bare-wire terminations, panel-side handling stays simple: strip, ferrule, land on the terminal block — no proprietary connector to cross-reference and no special tooling beyond a ferrule crimper.
