What this sensor is for
The XSDH603629 is a rectangular inductive proximity sensor that outputs a continuous analog signal proportional to target distance, not just a binary ON/OFF. It's built for applications where the PLC needs to know exactly how far away a metal object is – think stack height monitoring, cam-follower position, or fill-level detection in a hopper. Sensing range spans 6 to 60 mm, wide enough to cover multiple setups with one sensor and a teach-in. Switching frequency is 50 Hz, so it tracks changes at that rate – fine for slow-moving targets, not for high-speed counting.
Analog output – why this matters
Most block-style sensors from the Telemecanique XS line give you a simple PNP/NPN transistor closure. This XSD part is different: in 3-wire mode it delivers 0–16 mA, in 2-wire mode 4–20 mA. That means you feed it into an analog input card and get continuous position feedback, not just present/absent. If your BOM specifies an analog prox, the switch-output siblings (like the XS8D1A1PAL2, a 200 mA PNP part) won't work without a converter. Stick with this XSD order code. Output current is rated up to 16 mA (3-wire) or 20 mA (2-wire), which matches the standard analog input range of most PLCs. No scaling resistor needed – just wire the signal pair to the AI module.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Listed as current production. We quote to order against an RFQ; lead time is set at the time of request. Approvals include UL, CSA, and CE – that covers North American and European panels. The IP67 plastic housing holds up in washdown and dusty environments. Unshielded design allows flush or non-flush mounting; the 80 × 40 × 100 mm footprint fits the same cutouts as other Telemecanique rectangular sensors.
Physical fit and wiring
Dimensions are 80 mm wide × 40 mm deep × 100 mm high – same envelope as the XS8 block sensors, so it drops into existing panel brackets if the mounting hole pattern matches. Connection is a 2-metre PVR cable (PVC rubber, oil-resistant) with three wires: brown (24 VDC), blue (0 V), black (analog output). Operating temperature range -13 to 158 °F.
