The Telemecanique XUB5ANBNM12 is a current-production diffuse photoelectric sensor from the XU series, built for reliable object detection in washdown and high-pressure washdown environments. It switches dark-on with an NPN output, rated for 600 mm sensing distance at 12–24 V DC, and draws up to 100 mA through the M12 connector.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 600 mm diffuse range is a maximum for a standard white target; real-world distance on dark or irregular surfaces will be shorter, so leave headroom in the application layout. The 500 Hz switching frequency makes it suitable for moderate-speed lines — counting or position sensing on a conveyor running at several meters per second — but not high-speed pick-and-place. The NPN dark-on output means the load (PLC input, relay) is sourced when the sensor sees the target; if your controller inputs are PNP or require light-on logic, this part won't drop in without a signal inverter or a different variant.
Built for tough environments
Rated IP65, IP67, and IP69K, the XUB5ANBNM12 handles hose-down sanitization and temporary submersion. The PBT body and PMMA lens resist many industrial chemicals, and the M12 connector simplifies field replacement — no pigtail to strip. Overload, short-circuit, and reverse-polarity protection are built in, so a wiring mistake or a downstream short won't destroy the sensor outright.
