What the ratings mean for fit
The XUB5APBNM12: The 23.6-inch (600 mm) sensing distance on a diffuse photoelectric means the sensor detects a target at that range without a separate reflector — the emitted infrared beam reflects off the object itself. This is an adjustable proximity diffuse type, so the sensing threshold can be tuned via the potentiometer (not shown on spec but standard on XUB series) to ignore background objects beyond the set point. Rated 100 mA load current at 12-24 VDC with a 1 ms on/off response time and 500 Hz switching frequency. The 1 ms response means the sensor can reliably detect objects passing at line speeds up to roughly 500 parts per second, assuming a 50% duty cycle — fast enough for most conveyor and packaging lines. The PNP NC output (normally-closed, sourcing) is the standard configuration for fail-safe circuits: if power is lost or the sensor faults, the output opens. IP67 and NEMA 4X/12 enclosure means the sensor body and the M12 connector interface are sealed against dust ingress and temporary immersion (IP67) and against corrosion, rain, and hose-down (NEMA 4X/12). The PBT housing resists many industrial chemicals and UV. This sensor is at home on a washdown food line, a wet machining center, or an outdoor conveyor.
Connection and mounting
18 mm threaded barrel with a 4-pin M12 micro connector (male). The 3-wire PNP NC output uses pins 1 (brown, +VDC), 3 (blue, 0 VDC), and 4 (black, output). The yellow LED on the rear of the barrel lights when the output is active — a quick visual check during commissioning or fault-finding. The connector mates with standard M12 cordsets; no special wiring required. Operating temperature range -13 to 131 °F (-25 to 55 °C) covers most indoor and outdoor industrial environments short of freezer or oven applications. The infrared sensing beam is less affected by ambient light than visible red beams, making it more reliable in high-glare or dusty conditions.
