What this sensor is and what it does on the line
The XUB9APBNM12 is a cylindrical M18 threaded polarized retroreflective photoelectric sensor from the Telemecanique XU series, rated for a 2 m sensing distance. It detects objects by sensing light reflected back from a separate reflector, and the polarizing filter rejects false triggers from shiny targets — a common gotcha on packaging lines with film or foil. Output is PNP with a 100 mA maximum load current, normally-closed (1NC) contact form, and it switches at 500 Hz. The light-on switching mode means the output is active when the receiver sees the reflected beam.
Environmental rating and compliance — what IP69K means for washdown
Rated IP65, IP67, and IP69K, the sensor body and lens withstand high-pressure, high-temperature washdown cycles common in food-and-beverage and pharmaceutical lines. The IP69K rating per DIN 40050 confirms the housing holds up to 80 °C water at 80–100 bar from a defined spray nozzle. The PBT body and PMMA lens resist chemical exposure typical of caustic washdown agents. Compliance with CE, CSA, UL, and RoHS is listed, covering the main regulatory jurisdictions for North American and European installations.
