What the ratings mean for fit
The XUK1APBNM12: The 9 m range is for retroreflective — you need a reflector across the path, and it will reliably detect objects that break that beam up to 9 m away. That covers long conveyor spans, pallet detection, or crane travel limits. If you need to detect shiny or transparent targets, the polarized variant XUKT1KSML2 (1.5 m, cable) is the one to spec — but that changes both range and wiring. The PNP NC output is 3-wire, 100 mA load capacity. NC (normally closed) means the output is on when the beam is uninterrupted — typical for fail-safe circuits where a broken beam or power loss opens the circuit. Confirm your PLC input type; PNP sourcing to a sinking input card is the matched pair. The M12 connector (4-pin micro DC) is a field-replaceable advantage over the XUKT1KSML2's cable exit. You unplug and plug a new sensor in under a minute without opening the gland plate. Pre-wired harnesses are widely available.
