What it is
The Telemecanique XUX0AKSAT16 is a compact photoelectric sensor in the XU series, built as a multimode device with background-suppression, polarized retro-reflective, retro-reflective, and through-beam modes selectable on the same head, and shipped in a right-angle rectangular PBT housing rated for field mounting where sealing matters. It runs from a DC-only 12-24V supply, which is the first wiring decision to lock in — a panel wired for AC/DC will not back-feed this head without a separate DC rail. The optical envelope is set at 0 to 11 m maximum sensing distance, with the multimode programming letting the integrator pick the operating mode without swapping hardware.
What the key ratings mean for the BOM line
Output is NPN and PNP on the same head with 1NO/1NC contact form, sinking or sourcing up to 100 mA per channel — that 100 mA figure is the package ceiling, so paralleling two loads against one sensor has to stay under the combined number, not the per-pin. Sealing to IP65 and IP67 means the body tolerates washdown and temporary immersion at the cable entry, but the installer still has to land the M16 gland correctly — a loose gland defeats the rating faster than anything else on the panel. Operating window of -13 °F to 131 °F covers most unheated enclosures and most outdoor cabinet interiors without derating; outside that band the sensor needs a climate-controlled housing.
Where the class is used
Compact multimode XU heads sit on packaging lines, assembly conveyors, and material-handling cells where one sensor type has to cover diffuse, retro-reflective, and polarized retro-reflective targets without rewiring the panel. Programmable light-on/dark-on switching plus a visible indicator lets a commissioning engineer walk a line and re-pole each station without pulling the head off the bracket.
Sourcing posture
Compliance documentation on file covers CE, CSA, RoHS, and UL Listed alongside IEC 60529, which is what most panel builders and OEMs ask to see before sign-off. With the multimode head and the DC-only supply locked, this sensor is the right pick for a new BOM line that already runs DC rails; for an AC/DC cabinet or a relay-output retrofit, the AKSAM12 or ARCTT16 sibling line is the cross-shop candidate instead. Either way, it is quoted to order against an RFQ.
