The Siemens SIRIUS 3RV2011-1GA15-ZW97 is a motor protection circuit breaker designed to protect three-phase induction motors against overload, short-circuit, and phase failure. It's the go-to for a panel builder who needs a compact, DIN-rail-mounted breaker that coordinates with a contactor and overload relay in a motor starter. Rated Trip Class 10, it clears overloads quickly enough to protect standard motor windings during a locked-rotor event. The 100 kA breaking capacity at 400 V (also at 480 V and 500 V) means it can interrupt a high-fault-current bolted short without the upstream breaker needing to trip — that's full selectivity in most distribution panels. Phase failure detection is built in, so a lost phase on the line side won't let the motor single-phase and burn out. No ground-fault detection here — that's handled separately if the application requires it.
Mounting and integration
Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 60715, or screws directly to a backplate. The 45 mm width matches the standard SIRIUS contactor footprint, so a three-piece starter (breaker + contactor + overload relay) lines up neatly on the rail without adapters. Dimensions are 45 mm wide by 97 mm deep by 97 mm high. Clearance requirements: 50 mm above and below for air circulation and arc venting, 30 mm to the side. Mount in any orientation. Terminals accept up to 2x 2.5 mm² solid or stranded wire. Main contact screws are M3. The compact size leaves room for auxiliary contacts or a shunt trip in the same panel cell.
Lifecycle and sourcing
For a BOM freeze or a line-down replacement, we can quote the 3RV2011-1GA15-ZW97 to order. If you're comparing against the 3RV2021-1GA15, note that the 3RV2021 series is a physically larger frame (55 mm wide) with higher continuous current ratings — it won't drop into a panel cutout or DIN-rail layout designed for the 45 mm 3RV2011 without rework.
