Motor protection circuit breaker for Class 10 duty
The Siemens 3RV2011-1JA15-ZW96 is a SIRIUS motor protection circuit breaker designed for Class 10 trip characteristics — meaning it will trip within 10 seconds at 7.2× the thermal setting, matching the startup profile of standard three-phase induction motors (pumps, fans, compressors) where the rotor is locked or stalled during start. It detects phase failure and provides short-circuit protection with a 100 kA breaking capacity at 400 V, so it can interrupt a bolted fault on a 400 V line without upstream fuses needing to clear first. The 45 mm width and 97 mm depth fit a standard 35 mm DIN rail enclosure; mounting position is any orientation, which simplifies panel layout when space is tight.
Breaking capacity and coordination
The short-circuit ratings are given with specific upstream fuse types: 50 A gL/gG at 400 V, 40 A gL/gG at 500 V, and 40 A gL/gG at 690 V. Without those fuses, the breaker's own interrupting capacity at 690 V drops to 4 kA. For a 480 V line, the listed 10 A continuous rating and 100 kA at 400 V mean this breaker coordinates cleanly with a 100 A class J or gL fuse upstream — typical for a motor control center feeding a 5 hp motor at 460 V. The 1.5 hp at 230 V and 3 hp at 220/230 V ratings cover common single-phase and three-phase motor sizes in North American and European panels.
Mounting and wiring
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 60715. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2×(0.5…1.5 mm²) solid or stranded, or 2×(0.75…2.5 mm²). The M3 screw size is standard for panel wiring. Storage temperature range of -50 to +80 °C and operating range of -20 to +60 °C cover most indoor industrial environments. No ground-fault detection — that is handled separately by a residual-current device if needed.
