What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2140-5JP32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 40 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The ETU550 electronic trip unit manages overload and short-circuit curves, and the breaker communicates via an integrated communication function, so it reports status and trip events back to a PLC or BMS without an add-on module.
Interrupting capacity — what the numbers mean for your fault level
The 187 kA at 240 V is the headline number, but the real-world fit depends on your system voltage. At 415 V and 440 V the breaker still clears 121 kA — that covers most industrial distribution panels fed from a 500 kVA to 2 MVA transformer where the prospective fault current at the main switchboard lands in the 50–100 kA range. At 500 V it drops to 75.6 kA, and at 690 V it falls to 3.7 kA, so for 690 V drives or mining gear the breaker is only suitable downstream of a current-limiting device. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) means the internal clearances and creepage are designed for 690 V systems, but the interrupting rating at that voltage is the binding constraint.
Panel fit and mounting
The breaker is 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep. The front protection is IP40.
