Memory and programming scope
The 6ES7314-6CF01-0AB0 CPU carries 8 KB of FM (function block memory), which sets the ceiling for the user program size in a batch or continuous process application. That 8 KB FM limit means the program must be lean — ladder logic for a dozen analogue loops and a few dozen digital sequences fits; a full recipe manager with 50+ phases will push past it. Programming languages supported include CFC, FBD, LAD, SCL, STL, and GRAPH — the full S7-300 engineering suite except for HiGraph®. The CFC support is the key differentiator for process engineers: it lets you wire function blocks graphically without writing a line of STL, which speeds up loop tuning and batch-sequence changes on the line.
I/O address space and retentive memory
The CPU addresses 244 bytes each of inputs and outputs — enough for a mid-sized panel with a few analogue cards and a couple of digital racks. The retentive memory holds inputs, outputs, memory bits, DBs, timers, and counters across a power cycle, which is essential for a batch process where you cannot lose the phase state on a brownout.
The module measures 120 mm wide, 125 mm high, and 130 mm deep — standard S7-300 single-width format.
