CPU 315T-2 DP: Technology Controller for Motion Sequences
The Siemens 6ES7315-6TG10-0AB0 is a Technology CPU from the S7-300 family, purpose-built for controlling motion sequences like cam switches, synchronised axes, and high-speed positioning — not a general-purpose logic controller. It carries two integrated PROFIBUS DP ports: one standard DP and one dedicated DP (drive) interface, so you can run the motion bus on a separate network from the plant I/O scan.
Programming Languages and Engineering Toolchain
This CPU supports LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, GRAPH, CFC, and HiGraph. The engineering software is STEP 7 V5.2 SP1 or higher with the S7 Technology option package.
Memory, I/O Capacity, and Expansion
The CPU provides 244 bytes each for process-image inputs and outputs, with a total of 16 I/O modules addressable across the rack. The work memory size is max. 16 kbyte, and the retentive memory must be restarted at each restart — not battery-backed in the traditional sense. The FM (function module) count is 8, and the CPU supports forcing of variables (inputs, outputs, memory bits, DBs, times, counters) for commissioning. Expansion is not expandable beyond the standard S7-300 rack limit.
Communication Interfaces and Routing
The CPU has an isolated RS 485 interface on the MPI/DP port, but MPI routing is not supported. For PROFIBUS DP, up to 2 CPs can be added; for Ethernet (LAN), up to 10 CPs; for point-to-point (PtP), up to 8 CPs. The CPU can act as a DP client via a CP and a loadable FB, and as a DP server. PROFINET routing is not available.
