PM250 regenerative drive, 18.5 kW HO — what the overload curves mean for a real load
The 6SL3225-0BE31-8AA0 is a SINAMICS G120 Power Module PM250 with built-in Class A EMC filter and regenerative capability — it feeds braking energy back to the line instead of dumping it across a resistor, which matters for overhauling loads like conveyors on a decline or centrifuges that decelerate under full inertia. Rated for 3-phase 380-480 VAC +10/-10%, 47-63 Hz. The high-overload duty cycle is 18.5 kW with 200% for 3 s, 150% for 57 s, and 100% for 240 s at 0 to +50 °C ambient — this covers a pump start against a closed discharge valve or a crusher that sees short torque spikes. The light-overload rating is 22 kW with 150% for 3 s, 110% for 57 s, and 100% for 240 s at 0 to +40 °C, suited for a fan or a constant-torque conveyor that never needs the full 200% peak.
Regeneration and EMC — no external braking resistor, no external filter for industrial mains
The PM250 topology recovers braking energy to the AC line, so you skip the external braking resistor and its associated contactor and cabling — saves panel space and wiring labour, provided the line can accept regenerative current without nuisance tripping on upstream drives. The built-in Class A filter meets conducted emission limits for industrial mains per EN 61800-3 Category C2 (first environment, unrestricted distribution) — no external EMC filter needed for most installations, but verify the cable length and motor type against the filter's rated attenuation curve in the G120 commissioning manual.
FSD frame — panel mounting and airflow clearance
The packaging crate is 600 x 400 x 310 mm, so factor that into the shipping dimension if you are ordering multiples. IP20 means no washdown rating — keep it in a ventilated enclosure with top and bottom clearance for the internal fan airflow. The PM250 dissipates heat through the heatsink at the rear; the enclosure cut-out must match the mounting pattern in the G120 dimension drawing.
