DC drive for regenerative loads
The ABB 3ADT218520S0231 is a DCS880-S02-0450-04 four-quadrant DC converter rated for 400 VAC input and 450 A output, in Frame Size H3. Four-quadrant operation means it handles motoring and regenerative braking without an external braking chopper — the drive returns energy to the line during deceleration or overhauling loads. That makes it the right fit for applications like unwinders, hoists, and test stands where continuous regenerative torque is part of the duty cycle.
Three analog inputs and two analog outputs are onboard for speed reference, torque limit, or process feedback — enough for a basic closed-loop system without an external I/O module.
