What the ATEX marking means for a zone installation
The 140AII33010C carries CE II1 G/D-EEx ia IIC marking — that's ATEX Group II Category 1 for gas and dust, with intrinsic safety 'ia' protection for IIC gas groups (hydrogen, acetylene). It's certified for Zone 0 gas and Zone 20 dust environments, not just the boundary. The module is designed for use with products in Zone 20, 21 or 22 dust areas, and the conformal coating (Humiseal 1A33) protects the board in those environments.
8-channel current input — what you're wiring into
Eight intrinsically safe analogue current inputs, field-selectable for 0-20 mA, 4-20 mA, or 0-25 mA ranges. The 100 Ohm input impedance with ±0.1% tolerance means the loop burden is low — your 2-wire transmitters won't drop out at the compliance voltage limit. Resolution maps to 0-16000 counts for 4-20 mA, 0-20000 for 0-20 mA, and 0-25000 for 0-25 mA. The single low-pass input filter at -3 dB 15 Hz knocks down process noise but gives you a 750 ms update time — don't expect fast loop response on this channel.
Lifecycle reality — this is an obsolete module
Schneider has marked the 140AII33010C as obsolete. Hot swapping is not allowed per intrinsic safety standards. If this module fails in a live hazardous-area cabinet, the whole loop must be de-energized before replacement — factor that into your MRO spares plan. The module draws 1500 mA from the Quantum backplane bus. That's a heavy load — if you're populating a full rack of these, watch the power supply budget on the 140CPS series rack power supplies.
Standards compliance covers EN 50014, EN 50039, ATEX 94/9/EC, EN 50284, CSA C22.2 No 142, EN 50281-1-1, and UL 508. The CE marking includes the Ex ia IIC gas group and dust group II 1 G/D. Isolation between channels and the backplane bus is 2500 V DC for 1 minute, or 1780 V AC at 47-63 Hz. Common mode rejection exceeds 100 dB at 50/60 Hz — adequate for rejecting pump motor noise on long field wiring runs. Operating temperature range is 32 to 140 °F (0-60 °C) with 95% humidity non-condensing. Storage range extends from -40 to 185 °F. The module dissipates 7.5 W — ensure adequate airflow in the enclosure.
