At 400 V AC the Icn is 10 kA per EN/IEC 60898-1, which is the domestic/commercial rating; the higher Icu figures (30 kA at 240 V, 15 kA at 415 V) give the industrial specifier headroom for transformer-fed distribution boards. Curve B means magnetic tripping occurs at 3 to 5 times In (here 30–50 A), suited for resistive or lighting loads with low inrush — not for motor starting, which needs curve C or D. The thermal-magnetic trip unit handles overloads via a bimetal strip and short-circuits via a solenoid, no electronics to fail in high-ambient heat.
