The Schneider Electric A9L16447 is a Type 2 surge arrester from the Acti9 iPRD range, designed for electrical distribution networks. It uses MOV technology to clamp transient overvoltages on a 3-phase TN-C earthing system, with a maximum continuous operating voltage of 340 V L/PE and a protection level below 1.1 kV. Rated operational voltage is 400 V AC (+/- 10 %) at 50/60 Hz, and it handles a maximum discharge current of 20 kA common mode (L/PE). The nominal discharge current is 5 kA (L/PE) and 5 kA (N/PE). The unit is a 3-pole (3P) device with pluggable cartridges, tunnel-type terminals accepting 2.5 to 35 mm² conductors, and a tightening torque of 2.5 N.m. The enclosure is white (RAL 9003) and carries an IK03 impact rating per IEC 62262.
The part complies with EN 61643-11 and IEC 61643-11, and carries quality labels NF, OVE, and KEMA-KEUR. These certifications remain valid for installed units but do not affect the procurement path for new supply.
Mounts via clip-on (DIN rail) in the standard 35 mm profile. The 54 mm width (6 x 9 mm pitches) and 69 mm depth fit within a standard distribution board or sub-panel. The manufacturer specifies an associated circuit breaker for series protection — options include the IC60N, iC60H, or iC60L, all 25 A curve C, with interrupting capacities of 10 kA, 15 kA, and 25 kA respectively. This breaker must be wired upstream to limit fault current and allow safe cartridge replacement. Operating temperature range is -25 to 60 °C, storage from -40 to 85 °C, with relative humidity 5 to 90 %. Maximum operating altitude is 2000 m. No remote signalling contacts are fitted on this variant — fault indication is local only.
