The Schneider Electric A9L16568 is an Acti9 iPRD40 Type 2 surge arrester — a 3-pole MOV-based unit rated for 340 V L/PE continuous operation on TN-C earthing systems. It delivers a nominal discharge current of 15 kA per mode and a maximum discharge current of 40 kA common mode (L/PE), with a voltage protection level below 1.4 kV. This is the pluggable-cartridge variant, meaning the MOV module can be swapped without disturbing the wiring base.
Type 2 classification per EN 61643-11 and IEC 61643-11 means this arrester is designed for the main distribution board — it handles induced surge currents from switching and indirect lightning strikes, not direct-strike energy. The 340 V L/PE maximum continuous operating voltage (Uc) matches a 400 V AC (+/-10%) network with a solidly grounded neutral (TN-C system). The associated circuit breaker requirement is explicit: an IC60N, iC60H, or iC60L at 40 A curve C, with Icu ratings of 10 kA, 15 kA, or 25 kA respectively. That breaker provides the back-up overcurrent protection the arrester needs to safely clear a fault.
Panel Integration
Clip-on mounting to DIN rail, 6 modules wide at 9 mm pitch (54 mm total). Tunnel-type terminals accept 2.5 to 35 mm² on both top and bottom, with a tightening torque of 2.5 N.m. The white (RAL 9003) housing carries an IK03 impact rating per IEC 62262. Operating temperature range is -25 to 60 °C, storage -40 to 85 °C, with relative humidity 5 to 90%. No remote signalling contacts on this variant.
