The Schneider Electric A9L2F340 is an Acti9 iPRD Type 2 + 3 surge arrester with pluggable MOV cartridges, rated for 230/400 V AC 50/60 Hz TN-C earthing systems. It clips onto a DIN rail and occupies 6 modules of 9 mm pitch — 54 mm wide, 105 mm tall, 70 mm deep. The white (RAL 9003) thermoplastic housing carries an IP20 rating with cartridges fitted and wired, and an IK05 impact rating. The key ratings that decide fit: 40 kA maximum discharge current (Imax) and 20 kA nominal discharge current (In) per IEC 61643-11. Response time is under 25 ns, and the integrated fuse (condition of use) eliminates the need for an external back-up fuse on the load side, saving a DIN slot. Temporary overvoltage (TOV) withstand is 442 V L/N for 120 minutes in safe failure mode, and 337 V N/PE for 5 seconds — the part fails safe rather than catastrophically under sustained overvoltage.
Power terminals accept 2.5–35 mm² solid/stranded or 2.5–25 mm² flexible cable; earthing terminal accepts 6–35 mm² solid/stranded or 6–25 mm² flexible. Strip length is 18 mm for both power and earthing terminals, 10 mm for the remote control signal. Tightening torque on the power circuit is 4.5 N·m. Remote signalling is included: a volt-free changeover contact rated 1 A at 250 V AC or 0.5 A at 24–48 V DC. The local status flag shows green for operating, red for fault — no need to open the panel to check cartridge health.
